Freewheel is a concept for a high end desktop gyroscopic ornament that functioned without the use of a rip cord or other easily lost components.
Aesthetic Direction
The selected input is a pumping action that drove a clutch system hidden within the flywheel. This assembly was selected as it had the ability to be be self contained and minimal in its appearance while not in use.

The Mechanism
The Freewheel Gyroscope functioned based on a custom clutch design responsible for rotating the brass flywheel.
The 'Proof of Concept' Prototype
The proof of concept prototype was the first demonstration of the clutch system created for the Freewheel.
Testing the concept
The Freewheel Gyroscope functioned flawlessly and was produced from machined brass, & aluminum components. These metals were chosen due to weight requirements necessary for producing the gyroscopic effect.
